CASS+ is pleased to announce that our support for people going through family courts will continue for a further 12 months until 31 March 2026.
This follows confirmation that the Access to Justice Foundation Improving Outcomes Through Legal Support (IOTLS) programme has received further funding from the Ministry of Justice.
Support through family courts goes from strength to strength
We are grateful for the support of Access to Justice and look forward to continuing to support people through the family courts in Devon and Cornwall for a further 12 months.
Our family work has gone from strength to strength.
A message from the CEO
We have a long track record of supporting people in the justice system. We are delighted that our support through family courts will continue. Huge thanks to everyone for making this happen.
Steve Parker, CEO, CASS+
Family court proceedings are complex
We focus on the most vulnerable and we’re proud of the service we deliver.
It’s complex and emotive for anyone going through family court. The depth of our experience and understanding means that clients get the right support through these difficult proceedings.
Where do we operate?
Our team can offer free, confidential emotional and practical support for anyone going through the family courts in Exeter, Plymouth, Bodmin or Truro.
Few eligible for Legal Aid
Very few people involved in family court proceedings are eligible for Legal Aid. As a result, they end up representing themselves. Consequently, we focus on supporting Litigants in Person through this complex process.
How it works
Clients are asked to complete a self-referral form. This way, we can assess the level of support needed and the issues that need to be resolved. Our team of volunteers and paid Coordinators explain the legal process and ensure that paperwork and forms are completed.
On top of this, we can help with important tasks like drug tests and supervised contact. Liaising with the other party’s solicitors is a vital part of the work.
Making a huge difference
This is one of the most stressful times of a parent’s life. Anxiety and depression are commonplace. On top of this, there are so many people facing: economic deprivation; mental health needs; hidden disabilities like learning needs and dyslexia; physical disabilities; and domestic abuse. CASS+ is making a huge difference.
Impact and progress
We’ve made real progress. Our support through family court has helped 347 people since August 2023 to understand the court process and participate effectively.
Helping hand through the family court
