Volunteer with CASS+ in Devon and Cornwall

Student story

Ellie volunteered one day a week for three years at our hub inside Plymouth Magistrates’ Court whilst studying Criminology at the University of Plymouth. Her applied knowledge and understanding of the Justice System earned her a First in her final dissertation. All her hard work paid off because she now has a new role at Babcock International in Plymouth.

I feel like I’ve done something good, and it’s even better when they say thank you for the help.

Graduate story

Codie graduated from Plymouth Marjon University with a BA (Hons) in Criminology with Psychology. She is just about to start training to become a Probation Officer. This is a direct result of volunteering with CASS+ at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court where she road-tested her chosen career and put her degree into practice:

I like CASS+. I know there are people out there who can be helped. People are not numbers and they just need someone to listen to them. They can start to understand their future when they talk.

Intern story

Yousef graduated from Nottingham Trent University and immediately started an internship alongside our Communications Officer to create a new brand identity. Yousef played a pivotal role in creating a new set of communications tools, in particular the illustrations and infographics that you see on this website.

Placement story

Omar worked with our team in Cornwall. At the time, he was studying for a BA in Social Work at the University of Plymouth. This placement has given him relevant experience for his chosen career as a Social Worker:

The work at CASS+ is awe-inspiring. I’ve seen so many people come through this door in panic, fear and destitution. They leave calm and supported. This is the direct result of having a chance to talk and find solutions to their problems. They come out feeling heard and supported, with suggestions about what they can do. The team is so committed and responsive. Staff and volunteers are exceptional.

Volunteer story

Peter works with our team inside Exeter Crown and County Court. His career as a surveyor and in business development has given him an invaluable skill set. He has always aimed for an outstanding service and his work at CASS+ is no exception. First and foremost, he makes sure he asks the right questions to get the best out of people. Secondly, Peter ensures that the people who come through our door understand the steps involved to go through family court.

The work at CASS+ is life-changing. As a volunteer, being able to draw on the experience of my fellow volunteers, alongside the knowledge of the CASS+ team, is a great benefit.
