Vacancy for Coordinator at Newton Abbot Magistrates' Court, Devon

We are hiring a Coordinator at Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court

We’re looking for a compassionate and empathetic Coordinator who shares our vision to improve the lives of people experiencing the Justice System in Newton Abbot and surrounds.

What we do

Our system does not always address the root causes of crime. Anyone can end up at court alone, feeling powerless, trapped and terrified.

As a result, we give free, confidential, practical help and emotional support for anyone going through court and into life beyond.

We sit down and listen. We think about what that person has been through. Ultimately, we build trust and use our experience to find solutions to complex situations.

Finally, we guide towards positive change and stay by their side for as long as they want us. This is why we are hiring a Coordinator at Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court, at the point of need.

What you will do

You will help people through Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court by: actively listening; explaining what’s going on; deciphering court language; sitting by their side inside courtrooms; coordinating their needs; keeping accurate and up-to-date records; liaising with magistrates, solicitors, probation, police, District Judges, CPS, ushers, court cells, social services; and working with local organisations and specialist charities. As a result, we are respected by many professionals for our knowledge, connections and experience of the justice system.

Most importantly, you will also manage our incredible local volunteers, alongside looking after the client records on our database.

Days and hours

Your days and hours will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, totalling 22.5 hours per week.

Part of a team

You will be part of a team of staff and volunteers focussed on reducing re-offending in Devon and Cornwall. We believe that everyone deserves another chance.

You will be able to make a real difference, providing practical advice and emotional support, especially when it comes to:

  •       Spiralling financial hardship and debt
  •       Homelessness and accommodation
  •       General wellbeing
  •       Domestic abuse
  •       Substance use
  •       Mental health, including depression and anxiety
  •       Literacy issues
  •       General court support
  •       Employment, education and training

Ultimately, this is an opportunity to make your neighbourhood safer and stronger by helping people to make changes.

Our beliefs drive us

Our beliefs drive us. To sum up, with the right opportunity, support and determination, it really is possible to start afresh. That’s why we’re here inside the courts in Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Bodmin and Truro.

We are hiring a Coordinator at Newton Abbot Magistrates’ Court

Above all, you will be joining a great team determined to find solutions for people facing many difficulties.

Join us if you enjoy variety and understand that many people have complicated lives or have experienced past trauma.
