Wake-up call for Evie
Evie volunteered with CASS+ after facing the Magistrates at Exeter Crown and County Court. Her visit to court was a real wake-up call. She now faced a second driving ban, but this time for three years and four months, along with a £750 fine:
This was the wake-up call I needed.
Turning a negative into a positive
Sadly, Evie won’t be able to get behind a wheel again until May 2027. However, she has not let this get her down. Determined to continue doing the caring that she so loves, she asked her employer, Dedicated Care, if she could work exclusively in her home town. This way, Evie can continue to help people, visiting on foot. The ban also meant that Evie was forced to give up her job as a travelling barber. Thankfully, she has found a way around this as well. And so, she now works at her local Istanbul Barbers where there is plenty to do.
Evie stops smoking
Evie tried to deal with the stresses of work, but she knows her behaviour was reckless. She has vowed to never get behind the wheel under the influence again. She has stopped smoking and feels free to get on with the things she loves to do.
Volunteering is Evie’s new-found sense of achievement
We first met Evie at Exeter Crown and County Court. We explained that we give free, confidential, practical help and emotional support for anyone going through court and into life beyond. Evie decided to volunteer with CASS+ on the spot. We’re so thankful to have her on our team in Exeter because she really understands what people are going through. As a result of her experience, she has natural empathy and can demonstrate that it’s possible to turn this negative into a positive. She is a real role model for anyone who wants a more positive future.
Volunteering brings new skills and fulfilment
Evie volunteered with CASS+ after facing the Magistrates at Exeter Crown and County Court. Over the last few months, Evie has found that volunteering has increased her sense of satisfaction in life. She now has renewed purpose by helping others who find themselves in the same situation as her. Having worked in a forensic psychiatric hospital, she also understands what many of the people who come to our door are going.
Looking forward
Evie loves helping others – this is why she volunteers. But she also has a hidden talent because she’s a talented songwriter. She’s looking forward to taking her heart-felt songs on tour. This way, she will combine her passion for music with adventure. Her beautiful song Getaway Train can be found on SoundCloud.
